Monarch Roosting at Giving Tree Farm

Giving Tree Farm features a significant amount of nectar and pollen for monarchs, including milkweed species, in our pastures, CRP and pollinator plots. These resources attract monarchs, and the woodlands along the creek then serve as a roost site for those traveling south to Mexico for the winter. The timing varies based on the weather, but for a few days each fall hundreds of monarchs gather in a few trees in the evening. They spend the night there in a microclimate that helps to moderate the temperature and humidity on a cool night.

This typically happens in mid-September. Please contact us to be added to our monarch email list. You may only have an hour or two notice that monarchs are coming in for the night so be prepared to hustle to get here. The site is spectacular!
